MEETTHETEAMSUZANNESHAW

Meet Suzanne Shaw, one of our dedicated Tutors/Mentors, making a significant impact on our learners' success.

Suzanne embarked on a transformative journey in the pharmaceutical industry, transitioning from a Student Nurse to Staff Nurse, which involved managing a team. Her experience ignited her passion for leadership and development, shaping her path forward.

In this blog, Suzanne discusses her career journey so far and what she enjoys most about working with Kingdom Academy.

How long have you been working at Kingdom? How did it all start?
I’ve been working with Kingdom for 2 ¾ years now. I saw a job advertisement during lockdown and during the time we could meet socially distanced, I was interviewed and got the job! I was drawn to the journey and the working relationships which could be created during an extended learning period. I am a big people person so that appealed to me massively, as I enjoy the journey and watching people flourish.

What is your expertise/role?
I worked as a nurse as my first job and went through the challenge of one day being one of the team to managing a team and a busy ward the next day without any formal training. I don’t think I even knew what the word “delegation” meant. That experience led me on a developmental journey into Learning and Development. Leadership and Management is a real area of fascination for me wanting to help individuals be the best manager they can be.

What’s your favourite part about working at the company?
I love the people and the journey. Every day I learn something new.

What are the company’s values you stand for?
I have worked in customer facing roles throughout my working life so being customer focused is key for me. Innovation is also another driver as 4 years post pandemic I am still learning about the virtual learning environment, working towards learning being fun as well as focusing on the important things.

How do you spend your time outside of work? What do you enjoy doing?I love the countryside and being outside. Sadly, my running has come to a halt, but I am hoping to return to that at some stage. I spend a lot of time with my 16-year-old daughter, and we hit the gym together (trying to rehab a knee injury!). We also like snuggling down at the end of the day watching our current series. I love spending time with my family and friends. Time is a little limited at the moment, as I am into month 9 of renovating our house.

What makes Kingdom Academy unique?
We are really encouraged to be innovative and think outside the box which I love being able to do.

What’s your favourite quote?
“Personal development starts with self-awareness”.
